With advanced technology and enormous scientific knowledge one wonders why a disease such as Listeria monocytogenes is still prevalent and claiming lives. It surfaces in all countries across continents in the developed world and the countries in transition. The European food safety authority cited 32 cases across Europe with 6 deaths. (2018 CNN Library Listeria fast facts). In South Africa alone 748 cases with a death toll at 67 according to the (NICD). Despite global efforts the organism still breathes leaving no footprints.

The organism is not as common as Salmonella and E.Coli but its approach is deadly and it attacks all and especially the vulnerable such as pregnant woman and people who are immunocompromised, the elderly and children. A population that needs to be sheltered.
